5 Healthy Alcoholic Beverages You Should Be Drinking

How do ‘alcohol’ and ‘healthy’ end up in the same sentence? Drinking alcohol regularly and living a healthy lifestyle does seem impossible, right? Wrongo! There’s ways to maintain your inner health freak while having a nice cold one with your clan. It’s hard to see passed the beer carbs, the sugary mixed drinks and wine however, it’s possible to drink alcohol and have flat stomachs too.

Just a reminder that drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning so please drink responsibly. Now – how ironic – onto getting drunk!

Drink #1: Vodka Water/Soda
Ingredients: Vodka, Water/Soda

Could we just get this one out of the way, please? If you want a low-cal drink, go for a Vodka Soda. Vodka averages about 96 calories per 1.5 ounces and Soda Water, of course, doesn’t contain any calories. Okay, fine – it’s very boring – but it’s a great way to keep yourself hydrated while getting crunk at the same time.

Drink #2: Wine (Red or White)
Ingredients: Grapes

Drum roll please… Wine. Most people’s best friend! Wine is actually pretty good for you. It carries about 100 to 130 calories per 5 ounces, which is not too shabby. If you had to choose between Red or White, go with Red. Red Wine is packed with a ton of health benefits. It’s loaded with antioxidants, it decreases inflammation, it lowers blood pressure and it decreases your risk of heart disease. Beware this is does not mean you can splurge on a daily basis. Maybe just a little.

Drink #3: Bloody Mary
Ingredients: Vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, celery, salt and pepper.

Woah. What a mix. But it sure is fun. Bloody Mary’s are, once again, low in calories, considering the amount of ingredients. The tomato sauce and celery gives you some fruit and veggie nutrients that fight cancer and contains Vitamin C, Potassium and Vitamin A. Not to mention, its delicious!

Drink #4: Sangria
Ingredients: Too many to function.. with Red Wine, Gin, OG and a bunch of fruits.

Why do most restaurants have Sangria during the summer? Totally unfair. Anyways – Sangria isn’t the go-to drink if you’re watching your calorie count but it sure is loaded with fruit power. Vitamin C to antioxidants – Fibre to Vitamin B – Sangria is a great way to get a serving of fruit!

Drink #5: Light Beer
Ingredients: Too many to function.. with Red Wine, Gin, OG and a bunch of fruits.

In honour of the beer belly’s… We all know that Beer is high in calories and carbs, and unfortunately, it’s hard to find Beer without it. But you can turn to light Beer! Light Beer doesn’t contain as much carbs or cals. Look up your favourite Beer brand right now and take a look at all the calories you’ve been digesting. It’s time to go light!
